I Want To Hear Your Questions

Daily Prayer for July 22

sea shells

You are those who have stood by me in my trials. And I confer on you a kingdom, just as my Father conferred one on me, so that you may eat and drink at my table in my kingdom Luke 22:28–30a, NIV

Lord our God, we thank you that we may be your children and that we may hope in your Spirit. Your Spirit rules us as people whom you want to draw to yourself, as people who may serve you in their lives here on earth. Grant that we may be childlike, so that your Spirit can rule us more and more and what is good may come to many people in all places. May many come to know that their lives are not merely temporal. May they realize that they can live and act in you, and through you may experience the good that is to come to all nations on earth. Amen.

Give Love, Receive the Kingdom

I recently read through Benedicta Ward’s new book book, Give Love and Receive the Kingdom, a collection of essays and papers. The topic is English spirituality, but it’s early English or Anglo-Saxon spirituality and not modern stuff at all. She focuses on Bede the Venerable and Anselm of Canterbury but there’s plenty more, like St Cuthbert, […]

To Pray “Thy Kingdom Come”

What does it mean to pray that “thy kingdom come”? We are looking at Philip Ziegler, Militant Grace: The Apocalyptic Turn and the Future of Christian Theology. It is eschatological, it is theological, and it is christological, and opens with theological abstraction that becomes more clear as the chapter proceeds: In short, I suggest that praying […]

To Pray “Thy Kingdom Come”

Daily Prayer for June 17

light pink apricot flowers

“The time has come,” he said. “The kingdom of God has come near. Repent and believe the good news!” Mark 1:15, NIV

Lord our God, we come into your presence and bow down before you, the Almighty. We come before you and repent, believing in you and in your will to save us. Your will to save goes out over the whole world, over the whole godless world, that all may repent and be redeemed. Grant us the thoughts of your heart so that we may begin to understand your will. We dedicate ourselves to you, the holy, just, righteous, and merciful God. Grant that we may be your children, led and guided by you every day. Turn our hearts to you so that you can make us more and more as you want us to be. Turn our hearts to you until your goal of atonement and redemption is reached through the quiet working of your almighty power. Amen.

Daily Prayer for May 26

Blessed are the poor in spirit, for theirs is the kingdom of heaven. Matthew 5:3, NIV

Dear Father in heaven, we thank you for wanting to give us happiness and for holding our earthly life firmly in your hands. May we have the confidence that we are in your hands. Grant us the light of faith. Let this light of faith guide us in material things and help us to wait in patience until the doors open for us to pass through according to your pleasure. So bless us all. Bless our life. May we grow joyful and free of heart through all that Jesus Christ gives. On the foundation he establishes for us may your divine working, your fatherly love, lift and support us throughout our lives. Amen.

Baby Steps (Mike Glenn)

By Mike Glenn Of all of the members of the animal kingdom, human beings are born almost helpless at birth. While most animals are self-sufficient a few hours or days from birth, humans spend almost one quarter of their lives getting prepared for life on their own. In our defense, however, adult humans have to […]

Daily Prayer for March 5

Fear not, little flock, for it is your Father’s good pleasure to give you the kingdom. Luke 12:32, RSV

Lord our God, we come to you as a little flock, asking you to accept us and keep us as your own, whom you will redeem in your time. Protect us always so that we remain strong in faith. Strengthen us in the faith that you are with us, helping us. Grant that your people may come to the light, to the honor of your name. So we entrust ourselves to your hands this night. Be with us, Lord our God, through your Spirit. Amen.
